A project where we document our most interesting encounters

About

How often do you get the opportunity to realize the impact you’ve made on a stranger’s life?

If you received one of our cards, it’s because you made a difference for one of us today, and we want you to know it. Whether you graced us with your kindness, intelligence, humor, help, or just your general good nature, we wanted to give you a glimpse into the way we talk about you behind your back. In fact, we’d be happy to talk about you this way right to your face!

If you like what we wrote (and after you verify that we’re not creepo stalkers), please feel free to drop a text or an email to either of us on the contact page. There are so few opportunities in life to turn an honest, positive encounter with a stranger into an actual friendship . . . maybe we can create more chances of that happening with a project like this.

How does it work?

We each carry a small card with us at all times. It’s basically a business card for “I Met You Today,” containing the web address and a note that says “check this site in 24 hours.” When we meet someone who makes a big impression on us, we give them the card when we leave. Now the clock is ticking – we have 24 hours to write up our experience and post it to the site.

If nothing else, it gives us the chance to think through the encounter and write it up in a positive way, giving us an archive of thoughtfully written experiences to remember whenever we get depressed about the state of the world. Most of the time, the person we’re writing about visits the site and gets to see the difference they’ve made in someone’s life. And, in the very best cases, an actual friendship is formed if they reach out to say hello.
